It takes place in the village of the same name in the province of Arezzo, which has become a place of international hospitality and training on the themes of peace, intercultural dialogue, and conflict management. The project allows selected young people from across Italy to follow the traditional high school curriculum of their chosen field of study while simultaneously receiving innovative training on conflict management and personal growth, offering them the opportunity to experience life away from home in a highly international and intercultural context, learning what is not traditionally taught in the classroom: how to listen to themselves and others, understanding the world and appreciating its differences.

The Meeting with Fondazione Augurusa and the Advanced Training Students

The Quarto Anno Rondine students spent the afternoon at the Municipality of Filogaso, where they had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the history and activities of Fondazione Augurusa, whose mission draws inspiration from a pencil drawing by little Antonio Emanuele, who passed away prematurely on the soccer field of the Calabrian village: a pencil sketch of a House of Peace, a place of inclusion, hospitality, respect for the environment, and collective participation. “Antonio’s dream is very similar to the Cittadella della Pace project of the Rondine Association,” commented one of the young high school students of the Rondine Project. “It is wonderful to know that a child’s idea has inspired so many people and so many good actions over time. Often children’s ideas are set aside, when those very ideas possess purity, spontaneity, and a desire for genuine things, not being driven by the pursuit of fame or money.”

After an initial introduction and mutual sharing of their respective experiences, the meeting between the two groups moved into full swing: the Quarto Anno Rondine students divided into small groups, within which the Green SIM program participants took turns facilitating orientation sessions. An intense and passionate dialogue in which the older students shared their university and professional journeys while gathering the dreams, fears, and future prospects of the high school students, in an atmosphere of deep empathy, listening, and mutual exchange.

The day continued outdoors with an emotional and symbolic journey through the key places that bear witness to the presence and work of Fondazione Augurusa in Filogaso: the soccer field where Antonio prematurely passed away, the school named after him, and the playground donated by the Foundation as its very first act immediately after its establishment. There, the students gathered around the sculpture depicting Antonio, created by a local artist, experiencing firsthand how an idea of purity can transform into concrete works for the community.

The story of little Antonio Emanuele deeply moved and inspired the young visitors from Arezzo, becoming a fundamental piece of their growth journey. As one of the students shared, “Antonio’s story conveyed so much to me; this child, despite his young age, was truly admirable. His commitment and care for the environment, for his social context, and for others are exemplary. Each person can plant a small seed of peace, starting precisely from daily life. When there is a desire to make others feel good, to go beyond walls, beyond the boundaries created by different ideologies or cultures, that is how peace is created.”

In Filogaso, young witnesses of peace in the spirit of little Antonio Emanuele A meeting centered on peace, sustainability, and intergenerational dialogue.
