The protagonists of the event were the children of the Sant’Onofrio School Institute together with young talents who came from all over Italy to participate in the Green SIM course and the participants of Energie con il Sud, the other training program promoted by Fondazione Augurusa with the goal of training young energy transition technicians in Calabria.

The morning was marked by recreational moments and educational workshops for the children of Filogaso – to whom the company Dolciaria Monardo, in partnership with the Foundation, donated its products – and a training panel for the young students during which the following speakers participated: the Mayor of Filogaso Massimo Trimmeliti, the Administrator of G.A.M.A Technology Mafalda Maiolino, the President of the Dante Alighieri Society of Tropea Titti Rando, and the representatives of CLG Eureka.

Further prestige was added to the event by written testimonials from institutional representatives. The Calabria Region Councilor Antonio Montuoro wanted to express his support, emphasizing the value of the project for the Calabrian territory. Particularly significant, finally, was the contribution of Kathleen Rogers, President of the Earth Day Network, the international organization that coordinates Earth Day worldwide. In her message, she emphasized how climate education is a human right and not a privilege, praising the collective commitment of Fondazione Augurusa, the young participants, and all the local organizations: ” To the young participants in the Foundation’s programs: the world needs your skills, and it needs them now. To the children: keep asking questions. To the institutions, businesses, and civil society representatives gathered here: continue to invest in people. And to Fondazione Antonio Emanuele Augurusa, its President Francesco Augurusa, and all those who make this work possible every day: thank you .”

Words welcomed with enthusiasm by the Fondazione Augurusa team, which opened the morning by recalling the meaning of the day and its mission: “Earth Day is not an abstract occasion,” declared Maria Makarova, Project Manager. “It is an invitation to ask ourselves what we are doing, concretely, for the place where we live. Climate education is the best investment a community can make in itself and in its future .”

This is perfectly demonstrated by the Green SIM course, a unique program that launched for the first time in Italy the role of Social Impact Manager. The program addresses in an innovative way the themes of ecological transition and territorial development, involving teachers and experts of national importance in strategic and complementary sectors: from civil economy to project management, to the communication of social impact. Through lectures, practical workshops, and project work activities in the territory, the course offers participants concrete tools to guide the transformation of communities, preparing them to become the new leaders of sustainable innovation.

With this opening event of the Course, the Foundation has reaffirmed, once again, the strategic importance of environmental education and training, emphasizing the need to bring the attention of new generations back to those territories that are often the first to suffer the impact of climate change and institutional abandonment. This was also recalled by Mariangela Preta, director of the Museum Center of Soriano Calabro and of the Civic Museums of Pizzo, in her opening speech for the third edition of Green SIM: “It is very important to change the narrative of our places by bringing businesses and young students, as Fondazione Augurusa is doing: this helps the development of Calabria and makes people understand how our territories are a driving force for development for the entire Region.” In this context, training becomes the fundamental tool for transforming the protection of the planet into a real opportunity for rebirth for local communities.

Children, young talents, and local organizations come together for climate education.
