The initiative stems from the dialogue between Prefect Colosimo and the delegation led by Francesco Augurusa and Father Anthony Pizzo to create a values-based alliance among the municipalities of the province

For a positive peace born from the ground up. These are the reasons behind the institutional meeting held on the morning of October 27th between the Prefect of Vibo Valentia, Dr. Anna Aurora Colosimo, and the Antonio Emanuele Augurusa Foundation at the Prefecture building. The delegation included its President Francesco Augurusa and its Spiritual Guide Father Anthony Pizzo, former Prior of the Augustinians of the Midwest and a longtime friend of the Holy Father Leo XIV, who flew in from his hometown of Chicago to accompany the Augurusa Foundation on a spiritual mission in the footsteps of young Antonio Emanuele. A journey through the places that shaped him, retracing a path of faith, charitable commitment, and love for life that culminated in the formulation of the “House of Peace” – a vision that today lays the foundation for the work of the Augurusa Foundation, guiding its mission – and experiencing firsthand, through contact with the community of Filogaso (VV), the tangible signs of his spiritual legacy.

On the value of the mission, Father Anthony Pizzo emphasized: «We continue to walk together: it all revolves around reciprocity and relationships, our mutual bond, and moving forward side by side. This is a journey that continues for all of us, because the message and mission of the Foundation place at their center the value of every single person and the contribution each of us can make to make a difference and transform lives».

And it is precisely from sharing these values and the vision of the House of Peace with Prefect Colosimo that, during the meeting, the idea emerged to translate an ideal inspiration into a shared project, giving rise to the “Relational Pact for the House of Peace”. The goal of the initiative is to move beyond the boundaries of a single municipality, not limiting the House of Peace model to Filogaso alone, but projecting it onto a broader territorial scale. By signing a relational pact as a tool for territorial alliance, the aim is to promote the establishment of a multilateral district open to the participation of neighboring municipalities and local stakeholders, creating a shared portion of territory united by a common ethical responsibility and called upon to promote integrated strategies for growth and cohesion. To turn young Antonio Emanuele’s vision into widespread, tangible action.

In the coming months, the Augurusa Foundation, in coordination with provincial institutions, mayors, and local associations, will begin the first operational meetings to draft the text of the Relational Pact and formalize the initial commitments from the province’s municipalities.

Full agreement was expressed by the Prefect of Vibo Valentia, Anna Aurora Colosimo, who highlighted the forward-looking value of the proposal: «We could start with a values-based, ethical pact among the territorial areas of the province of Vibo Valentia that recognize the value of the message behind the House of Peace. A shared sense of purpose that could develop over time into a mutual operational commitment.». The Prefect also reflected on the significance of meeting the Foundation’s Spiritual Guide: «It has truly been a privilege to meet Father Anthony Pizzo. He is a person who immediately conveyed great serenity, great understanding, and above all, great closeness. It is truly an important encounter. I know the Foundation is strengthening its ties with the Chicago community, and I believe this experience could also help enrich the work you are doing in Filogaso, in such a small community.».

The international reach of the House of Peace model will be further strengthened by the Augurusa Foundation American Friends Fund, launched by the Foundation alongside the recent opening of its first North American office in New York. Attracting funds from North America could thus become a powerful means of development for the territories where the organization’s work is concentrated, reinforcing the Augurusa Foundation’s role as a vital values-based and operational bridge between Italy and the United States.

A Relational Pact for the House of Peace.
