Antonio’s Values as the Foundation’s Guiding Principles
Charity was expressed in Anthony in a daily commitment of love toward others in all dimensions of frailty. He placed himself at the service of those who suffered materially, supporting and sustaining them by every means at his disposal as an act of gratitude and giving back to his neighbor for the fortunes of his own life. It happened in his school years that Anthony would deprive himself of the sandwich prepared by his mother in order to donate it to a needy comrade who had no possibility of feeding himself.
We adopt his charitable approach and make it the motto of the Augurusa Foundation, “Charitas Omnia Vincit”
Antonio always sided with those who were perceived and marginalized as “different”: a limpid example of the indulgence of his heart was especially the dedication he reserved over the years for his cousin Francesca, who had Down Syndrome. At the same time he cultivated a compassionate attitude toward those who practiced malice or violence, convinced that the evil manifested by the individual was merely the immature fruit of a malaise, a silent cry for help that needed to be heard.
We choose not to look the other way and condemn. We create processes of social inclusion capable of accommodating any difficulty.
Antonio never failed to lay his eyes even on the conflicting and vulnerable realities most remote to him, to set himself to listen to a reality in turmoil that was physically inaccessible to him but whose echoes reached him in school desks and from television news. He dreamed of growing up and working to produce by his own hand tools to be placed at the service of the least, which could repay them for the mere misfortune of having been born in the most difficult areas of the planet.
We make his dreams our own by devoting every effort in Augurusa Foundation to building comprehensive, permanent and shared solutions with Generative Restitution.
