Future Generation: New Energy for Development from the Augurusa Foundation
In Filogaso, Children and Youth Cultivate the Future Together with the Community
Today, Monday October 13, in Filogaso (VV), the event Future Generation – New Energy for Development took place. This initiative was promoted by the Antonio Emanuele Augurusa Foundation, with the support of the Municipality of Filogaso and the collaboration of the Sant’Onofrio Comprehensive Institute. The event represented an opportunity for meeting and sharing among youth, institutions, the educational world, and the local community, united by the desire to build models of sustainable, inclusive development rooted in the local territories.
Future Generation is part of the Green Social Impact Manager project, a free high-level training program on sustainability, climate change, and renewable energy, developed by the Augurusa Foundation under the high patronage of the European Parliament. Leading the day were the young Green SIM participants, who engaged children and youth from nursery, primary, and lower secondary schools in workshops, educational games, and moments of reflection on themes of peace, social justice, the environment, and active citizenship.
The event opened with institutional greetings from the Augurusa Foundation and Principal Raffaele Vitale, who expressed words of praise, highlighting the social value of the event: “The school has a three-year educational offer plan in which sustainability—and consequently the activities proposed here today—is one of the fundamental points; therefore, we collaborate with great pleasure. I applaud the Augurusa Foundation for choosing to organize such an important activity in a small territory, and for all the high-profile initiatives involving top-tier speakers that have taken place and are planned for the coming days. We recognize the Foundation’s commitment to the territory and offer them our thanks.” He continued: “I want to remember that, together with the Foundation, we named the lower secondary school after Antonio, because his story has remained in everyone’s hearts. We gave our availability to name the school because it is right to remember Antonio, and these initiatives allow us to remember him in the best possible way.”
Among the most popular activities were the sowing workshops, “The Soil That Drinks” and “Operation Perfect Recycling,” which allowed children to discover in a practical and fun way how to take care of the planet. With “Story of a Waste Item,” an educational theatrical activity organized entirely by the Green Social Impact Manager students, the younger children experienced the theme of the circular economy firsthand in an atmosphere of unity and laughter. The day continued with a symbolic and choral moment: the young participants hung their “idea leaves” on a cardboard tree, leaving the Augurusa Foundation a thought dedicated to the sustainable future they imagine for themselves and their community. At the conclusion of the event, the children, with hands joined and united in the spirit of the moment, recited phrases and prayers taken from the notebooks of the young Antonio—a particularly touching moment for the Filogaso community and the Foundation.
The Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents of the Calabria Region, Prof. Antonio Marziale, expressed his direct support for the initiative, recognizing its educational, formative, and social value, stating in an institutional message: “I hope that your admirable initiative takes root in a territory called upon, today more than ever, to train and retain young minds. It is necessary to focus on training, and it must be of high quality from the moment our children sit at their nursery school desks. Today’s world requires sensitivity and—above all—competencies, not left to improvisation. I greet all those present, with the promise that we can soon meet on the ground of building a Calabria that unites us in our hearts. I wish you good work.”
A message received with great emotion by those present, interpreted as encouragement to continue along the path of training, cooperation, and care for the territories.
As noted by the Augurusa Foundation, Future Generation was born from the desire to transform training into concrete action, bringing the values of environmental, social, and educational sustainability to local areas. The initiative represents an act of giving back to the host community and an example of social innovation that starts from inland areas, valuing them as places of cultural and relational regeneration.
