Renewable Energy Communities with Green SIM
An interview with Fulvio Rodda
Who is Fulvio Rodda?
Fulvio Rodda is a professional active in the energy and outreach sector, operating as a consultant, publisher, and educator. He is a member of Fondazione CER Italia, an energy community that promotes energy saving to contribute to a more sustainable future. He has several publications to his credit on the subject of energy optimization.
Dr. Rodda, after this lesson at the Green Social Impact Manager, what impressions do you take away from the discussion with our students?
Very good ones. I hold many meetings at all levels throughout Italy, and I must say that the participation was very engaging, very warm, and heartfelt. It is clear that the topics covered are difficult, and perhaps new to many. The purpose of the intervention was to raise a doubt, to plant a seed.
You have gained extensive experience in outreach on energy issues, including in schools. In your opinion, how important is it that a foundation like the Augurusa Foundation does not limit itself to talking about sustainability, but builds a path where young people engage concretely with tools such as Renewable Energy Communities?
They matter because energy communities are a new social engine for savings and lower environmental impact. Every foundation should do its part to promote these values, just as yours does.
The Green SIM trains young people capable of interpreting complex problems, engaging stakeholders, and building sustainable projects. How useful can it be, even for the world of RECs, to have figures who know how to connect energy, social, and territorial aspects?
Very important, I would say almost fundamental, because as we have discussed during these hours of class, their generation will have to manage, disseminate, and aggregate. Our generation had to build; theirs will have to aggregate and develop. So, it is fundamental. Times are totally different from ours and the further we go, the more sensitive the new generations become. This is the positive aspect.
What possible synergies do you see between the work you carry out with Fondazione CER Italia and that of the Augurusa Foundation, especially in the field of youth training, strengthening communities, and building replicable models of sustainable development?
This is an answer I can give on behalf of the President, who handles these types of relationships. It is clear that the two foundations can certainly interact and be proactive regarding sustainability, socialization, and the social interaction of stakeholders. They are totally interchangeable. There is nothing to prevent reaching agreements.
Any personal reflections?
The audience basically comes from all over Italy: in the North, the numbers are higher, but here there is more aggregation. These are two different levels, but it is very important to develop both. It is a work in progress: a job of sowing seeds and raising doubts, where in fact we start from the problems to overcome them and throw our hearts over the obstacle. So, we build, not demolish, starting from the problems, from reality, because it is useless to deny it… Italy is still very far behind for many reasons, because it is very diversified, very parochial, but that does not change the fact that it is among the top producers in Europe. Everything is still to be done; it is the mentality that must be changed, the intentions. The paradigm to follow starts from the people, from the bottom up.
