The reuse of decommissioned ecclesiastical heritage
We supported the scientific research launched in 2022 by Dr Simone Baldetti, a legal scholar in Intercultural Law at the University of Pisa, focused on analysing legal tools for the social reuse of decommissioned ecclesiastical heritage.
The research, co-funded by the University of Pisa and Fondazione Augurusa, was born from the desire to explore new opportunities for collaboration with the ecclesiastical world in the reuse of disused buildings, with the aim of promoting the national expansion of our social development and training models.
In particular, the study addresses the need to provide models such as Virtus Lab with a solid legal framework, capable of integrating the requirements of both civil and canon law, and of identifying the most effective tools to transform unused properties into spaces dedicated to inclusion, education, and community development.
The research findings were published in September 2025 in the academic journal “Ordines”, contributing to the scientific debate on the enhancement and reuse of ecclesiastical heritage through innovative social impact models.
Through this initiative, we supported the dialogue between academic research, the ecclesiastical world, and the Third Sector, promoting new forms of collaboration capable of generating long-term social and territorial value.
